This blog post gives more information about the BioMat and insurance coverage. Did you know you may qualify to get a bio-mat using insurance? Specifically, personal insurance protection (PIP) plans are probably the most popular, successful coverage for securing a BioMat. Other plans can include Health Savings Accounts (HSA), Flexible Medical Accounts (FMA), personal injury or workman’s compensation.
Insurance companies are more likely to include the professional-size BioMat; all BioMats are a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510K Class II medical device. This information along with the following data can be very helpful to submit with your insurance claim/requesting them to pay for your bio-mat:
- Richway NPI Number: 1437589793
- 510K Number: KO72534
- Licensed Medical Device FDA Registration #2954299
- BioMat US FDA Medical Device Code 890.5740
Further, here’s necessary insurance codes for you as a customer (home user):
- CPT 99070: Durable medical equipment physicians’ unlisted supplies and materials used in non-surgical procedures
- HCPCS (Medicare/Medicaid): EO221 – infrared heating pad system
And if you are a health provider, these codes can be helpful:
- 97026 – application of a modality to one or more areas; infrared (limited coverage)
- 97034 – contrast baths (hot and cold alternating therapy)
If you are in Canada, use:
- Health Canada License: 100137
Next, we will walk you through the process of seeking insurance coverage for a BioMat:
- Talk to your doctor and get a prescription for the BioMat (if possible). Specifically, a prescription is best if it includes:
- Optimal size for your needs/issues.
- Intention of how you need/want to use it.
- Detailed heat settings and times of optimal sessions as a healing tool.
- A request letter.
Also, please be aware that even if you follow the above steps, the insurance provider may or may not cover (or even partially cover) a Richway BioMat for you. You have two choices:
- Wait to purchase a BioMat until you have insurance feedback (knowing this may take awhile).
- Purchase a BioMat knowing the insurance company may or may not actually cover it.
