This blog post is a continuation of BioMat vs. imitations discussion, specifically 1) cotton and waterproof covers, and 2) controllers.
With the original BioMat, a cotton cover automatically comes with the product; it is not waterproof. The waterproof cover that Richway has designed is a separate, optional purchase; Richway does not represent its cotton cover to be “waterproof.”
If you purchase a waterproof cover made by Richway International, it is specially designed to protect the BioMat from lotions, sweat and other bodily fluids while allowing both the far infrared rays and negative ions to pass through the protective layer. Click here for more extensive information.
Some of the imitation heating pads come with a cotton “waterproof” cover. These cannot be sanitized because of the cloth (cotton) and “waterproof” is very misleading and actually a false statement.
If anything is likely to go wrong with a bio-mat, it is probably the controller. For example, the controllers can easily be dropped off of night stands or bumped if they are on the floor. In other words, it is vital that BioMat controllers are sturdy and can withstand this kind of wear and tear. Each original BioMat comes with a controller that was originally designed by NASA. The bio-mat controllers are part of the extensive research and development, and improvements Richway International continues to make. The controllers are easy to use (even though they may look complicated). Temperatures are available in both Fahrenheit and Celsius; each controller has an auto-step-down timer (for safety) and a shut-off timer for convenience.
In contrast, the knock-off controllers are confusing with many only available in Celsius without any Fahrenheit references. Also, the safety step-down temperature feature is not available on many of them and their controllers are chintzy not withstanding intense wear and tear.
