Many people are interested in insurance coverage for the BioMat. Everyone loves to save money, right?! So, are bio-mats covered by insurance? As you might imagine, the answer is “yes” and “no.”
First of all, the professional-size BioMat is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a 510K Class II medical device, registration number 2954299 and medical device code 890.5740. This FDA-approval can be very helpful with insurance companies and “carries a lot of weight and clout” with the insurance industry. That said, it is important to be aware of:
- The BioMat does not have a specific insurance code (at this time).
- Richway International (the BioMat’s parent company) and the BioMat products are not contracted or registered with any insurance provider.
- A medical professional can help you by assigning appropriate treatment codes for securing a BioMat.
Here is one way to secure a Richway BioMat using your insurance company:
- Purchase the BioMat personally. Then, submit the proper paperwork to the insurance company for possible reimbursement. This is the fastest way to have a BioMat available for your healing. However, you pay for it out of your own pocket and then wait if/when the insurance company reimburses you. While you may wait for the insurance company to reimburse you (if they do so at all), you are using the BioMat and receiving the benefits of it. In this scenario, you also have to complete all of the insurance company’s paperwork and requirements. (See next week’s post as it will also give you an idea of the “red tape” you may have to work through with your insurance company.)
