We frequently get the question, “Can I use the BioMat with body metal implants?” While the answer is “YES!” we will give you a bit more detail to say many bio-mat users who have metal implants are enjoying the BioMat’s benefits and it helps them alleviate pain they are experiencing. In this blog post, we will discuss three specific body metal implants: 1) internal pacemakers/defibrillators, 2) external pacemakers, and 3) surgical implants.
Internal pacemakers/defibrillators. Since there are no magnets in the BioMat, it does not interfere with internal pacemakers or defibrillators. In other words, pacemakers located under the skin are not a problem to use the BioMat. Usually infrared heat does not interfere with or damage pacemakers or defibrillators, but there may be a small chance that interference occurs. You may wish to consult your physician before using the BioMat. Using the BioMat on low heat only at 95 to 113° F. could help remedy any negative occurrences. In general, using the BioMat increases blood circulation which can cause your heart beat to increase. Some people who have a pacemaker may experience discomfort since their heart rate is controlled. If you experience any discomfort, immediately discontinue using the BioMat and seek medical attention. For persons with a defibrillator, do not lay the Biomat directly over your device.
External pacemakers. If a person has an external pacemaker (the one that is strapped onto their chest), they cannot be on the BioMat. This is because quartz crystal (amethyst is a quartz) emits a very precise pulse and can interfere with the timing of the pacemaker. People who have an external pacemaker are usually hospitalized and may not have BioMat access anyway.
Surgical implants. Metal, titanium, ceramic or plastic implants can be located anywhere in the body, such as hip, knee, spine, etc. Individuals with these surgical implants are generally OK to use the bio-mat. These surgical implants generally reflect infrared rays and the implants are not heated by the infrared heat. If you experience pain in those areas, immediately check with your physician.
